Spokane is ranked fifth on Updater's Inbound Cities list for 2020, with it becoming an up-and-coming tourism location.

"When COVID hit, and the shutdown happened, we thought for sure that the end was coming, everything was going to fall apart, and people were going to run from contracts," Haven Real Estate Group owner Cambria Henry said, KREM 2 reported in late December. "But that has not happened at all."

The housing market in the city has also been thriving this year.

"Spokane has been on so many lists as a desirable place to live," she said, KREM 2 reported. "People have just been coming in droves from big cities."

Jamie Rand, Spokane's chief marketing officer, said several things have led to this.

"There are three things happening," Rand told KREM 2. "The current situation that we're in right [now] with people being able to work from home, the relative affordability and the quality of life that Spokane offers."

This can be good and bad. With more demand, there is less supply.

"We have such a demand for houses and such little inventory right now," Henry said, KREM 2 reported. "You're competing with so many more buyers, and it's brutal out there."
